Hey y’all! It’s hard to believe that it’s already September! Like, we have passed Labor Day. Time is meaningless. ANYWAYS, I did a poll last week on IG stories asking when people put up their fall decorations- the overwhelming response was after Labor Day. So now, we can say “it’s fall, y’all!” with reckless abandon, and soak up all the fall decor inspiration.
I shared the early stages of my fall decoration going up last weekend on Reels and I’ve been having so much fun! We’ve been in our house for a little over 2 years now, so we’re finally finding our style. I love to keep things a little more neutral with pops of color here and there. In our house, navy acts like a neutral, especially in our living areas downstairs. I wanted to work that into our fall decor this year!
HEY Y’ALL HACK: If you’re trying something new with your decor, use Canva to plan it out! Here’s what my initial plan looked like:
I knew I wanted to mix up our mantle with some new pieces and some family antiques, and this is how it turned out, with a break down of where everything came from:
I’ve changed it up a little bit since these pictures, but I love how it turned out! Everything will be linked at the bottom of this post (or check out my SHOP page). Here are a few tips for decorating your house this fall:
- Pick a focal color. The easiest fall color? Orange, of course! For me, the color I started with was navy. I added some fun neutrals and pops of orange. Don’t be afraid to play with color combinations!
- Get asymmetrical. I have always played it SUPER safe with keeping things symmetrical and even, but this year I decided to get a little crazy. (Everything else is crazy right now, so why not). This gives you so many opportunities to layer, mix and match different pieces, play with levels, etc.
- Pick pieces you love. Y’all, I am so happy with this mantle because it has so many family pieces that I LOVE. The tree picture is from my grandpa, who is a tree doctor. Two of the books are family antiques and one was a birthday gift from one of my best friends. I love my pumpkins and I love my family pieces.
- Move things around. Get all decorated, and then mix it up! I kept walking around my house pulling different vases, moving pumpkins, and swapping my decorations. Live with it for a little while and see what you want to move around.
